This course is a 6 hour classroom based course that is suitable for anyone aged 14 years and over. Lunch and refreshments included.
Course content:
- What is mental health
- Stigmas around mental health
- Factors affecting mental health
- Understanding the role of First Aider for mental health
- Giving advice and contacting emergency services
- Identifying signs and managing stress
- Identifying signs of : Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Eating disorders, Suicide and Self-harm
- Effects of substance misuse on a persons mental health
- Demonstrating the application of the first aid action plan for mental health
- Key factors of providing positive mental heath in the workplace and how to implement them
Learning outcomes:
- Know what mental health is, why people develop mental health conditions and the role of the First Aider for mental health
- Know how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting with medical health conditions
- Know how to recognise and manage stress
- Know how to recognise a range of mental health conditions
- Understand the impact of substance misuse on mental health
- Understand the first aid action plan for mental health and be able to put it into place
- Know how to be able to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace
